Local Profile: EVRGRN

EVRGRN is a Reggae-Alternative band, with influences from Rebelution, Passafire, Tribal Seeds, and Robert Nesta Marley amongst others. The band consists of Keo Blas on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Noni Spumoni on drums and back-up vocals, Ren Talavera on lead guitar and back-up vocals, and RJ Barcinas on bass. Their motto is "United By Growth, Forever Growing", and their lyrics are curated to share the same positive ideas.

All of the members were born and raised on the island of Guam. Before EVRGRN, Keo released a single called "Try For Us" which was the #1 requested song on Power 98 for months. He was then featured on Acoustic Attack for 3 different singles including "Try For Us", "So Nice", and "Curious". During that time, Keo decided to form a band and thats when EVRGRN was born. Noni was the first to join, followed by Ren and RJ. Their first single entitled "Cold Sweat" was released on New Years Day of 2020, and since then has been constantly streaming on local radio stations and major music platforms.

The Sowing Seeds EP is their freshman album, released on June 19, 2020. It contains rhythms and sounds inspired collectively by their favorite bands. The album title was chosen to signify the sowing of awareness and positivity into the minds of the listeners. Track titled "Roots Lullaby" is the fan-favorite. Which is a dialogue between two friends, where one friend is having a bad day and the other is giving him some positive advice. This album is meant for everyone, but it hits especially hard for the everyday deep-thinker.

EVRGRNs' second standalone single Conquer, was released on Oct. 21st 2020. It contains different levels of rhythm with a piercing lead guitar riff that lingers in your head. The lyrics are meant to motivate and encourage people to conquer the trials in front of them. Using good vibrations as a tool to drive yourself.

Conquer is another song that was only heard acoustically for years. But now it is grown into fruition by EVRGRN. The album art features Keo longboard-bombing a hill in Umatac.

"Bless me with the strength to refuse on command. Bless me with the power to withstand, the sorrow of a thousand men... Bless me with the courage to Conquer"

Keo says, "Growing up on Guam, there is so much musical influence from the bands that fly in to do shows and theres always a BBQ jam session with family and friends to look forward to. So it can be easy to become musically inclined at a young age."

There will be more music to be released within the next year. Follow their journey on Instagram @evrgrnguam.
